In regional Queensland, community spirit drives change, and the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Program is helping turn bold ideas into reality. With $159 million committed to 25 projects across the state, the initiative supports regional, rural, and remote areas by funding infrastructure that enhances liveability and strengthens social connection.
In the Wide Bay Burnett, two local organisations have secured funding for transformative projects. In Bundaberg, Bridges Health & Community Care will redevelop the decommissioned Bundaberg and Rural Fire Stations into Precinct 58 – a dynamic community hub for arts, culture, and wellbeing programs. This project will breathe new life into the fire stations, creating a space for connection and preventative mental health initiatives.
In Kingaroy, South Burnett CTC Inc. will redevelop Kingaroy Youth Park to address growing demand for youth and family services. Stage one includes a purpose-built reception centre, improved landscaping, and parking, delivering a modern, accessible space for community support.
Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett played a small cameo role in supporting these organisations in their funding journey. These projects exemplify the power of collaboration and targeted investment to strengthen regional Queensland and deliver tangible benefits to local communities.
The success of these initiatives shows that when organisations, communities, and governments come together, remarkable outcomes follow – leaving regional Queensland stronger, more connected, and ready for the future.
